Myles' first day of Kindergarten and bus ride...

Myles began his Kindergarten career today by getting on the bus for the first time with his neighbors. He seemed so excited and ready, he didn't even give Mommy and Daddy a hug and high-five. Maybe next time. At least we were able to capture the moment on video... I think his little bro Eamon was a little disappointed that he couldn't ride the bus too, but he is enjoying the morning with Mom and Dad!

18 months and counting...

It has been a while since our last post. The holidays always seem to take over every aspect of your life and the next thing you know it is the middle of January. We had a nice Christmas here in Durham. Myles was very excited for Santa's arrival and couldn't wait to see what special things he brought him. Luckily Santa came through with his top four items: a whistle, a football helmet, hockey skates and a snowboard. Welcome to the wild world of sports! Eamon was happy enough opening presents and it didn't really matter what was in it. We should have just wrapped some empty boxes for him and let him go crazy.
Eamon has also been busy working on his skills. He is quickly transitioning from walking to running and can be found moving quickly on his tiptoes. He is also getting very good at recognizing animals and making their noises. So far he knows kitty, sheep, horse, dog and cow. He is also shaping up to be a bit of a monkey and can be found climbing up everything. Eamon can also show you various body parts when asked and will point to his head when he wants to put on one of the 10 helmets we have.
Myles is busy back at school, playing basketball on Saturday and perfecting his skating and snowboarding skills. It is amazing how quickly he has picked up both skating and snowboarding.

It has been a while since the last post and we have been busy with lots of fall activities. From apple picking to first field trips, the fall has been full of fun. Eamon is finally walking and can't be stopped. Myles had his first school field trip with a visit to Emery Farm where he went on a hayride and walked through a corn maze. A few weeks ago we cheered on UNH at the men's hockey game. Unfortunately, our cheering wasn't enough for them to pull out the victory. Our most recent adventure was Halloween which was a three day extrvaganza. It started Thursday with a class party. That evening we went on a Pumpkin Stroll at Myles' school to see all of the pumpkins decorated by students. Friday was treat night with trick-or-treating with our friends the Dulacs. Myles, Drew and Cole sprinted from house to house and finished in record time. Eamon even joined in and rang some doorbells for treats. However, he also tried to go into people's houses and was soon cutoff. Finally, Saturday evening we went to the Halloween party put on by Durham Parks and Rec where we all took a spooky walk through the woods (I think the adults were more freaked out than the kids).

Myles celebrated his 4th birthday with family and friends this past weekend. He had a great time playing on the playground with his cousins and then came back to the house for pizza and cake. This year marked the first year that he didn't burst into tears during Happy Birthday. Thank you to everyone who helped him celebrate!!

Wednesday, Kirk and Myles went to a practice round for the Deutsche Bank Golf Championship. Their day started with the VIP treatment when they got to park in the VIP lot with the Ferraris. Myles had a blast playing in the bouncy houses and at the mini golf course. They also got to watch players warm up before heading out on the course. Myles also had his picture taken with Padraig Harrington and Fred Couples (along with Freddies autograph). While Kirk and Myles were in the proshop, Camillo Villegas came in and touched his hat. Unfortunately, Kirk was a little caught off guard standing shoulder to shoulder with Camillo and wasn't able to get a picture with him.

While Myles went golfing with Baampah, Eamon and I went blueberry picking with Dramma. Eamon was like a little baby bird on my back eating blueberries. If you didn't feed him fast enough, he would point and chirp like a little bird. We also picked some peaches while we were there.

Myles, Eamon and I went to visit Dramma and Baampah while Kirk was in Tampa for work. While there we visited Dreat Dramma and Michael; rode the little Indian; worked in the garden; played golf and picked blueberries and peaches.

Beach Days during Hurricane Bill

The boys and I went to the beach toward the end of Hurricane Bill. Thankfully neither of them are too interested in playing in the water because the waves were huge. Myles had fun perfecting his Baywatch run in and out of the water and Eamon worked on covering every square inch of his body with sand.

Swimming Lessons

Myles took swimming lessons at the Portsmouth pool this summer. Although he didn't actually learn how to swim, he did become more comfortable with the water. The class practised using noodles, kickboards and collecting rings. At the end of the 4 week session he received a certificate and some pool toys from his teacher. His biggest area for improvement is going under water.

Eamon had his 1 year appointment today and passed with flying colors. He is 21 lbs and 2 oz, 29 1/2 inches tall and has a lot of brains in his head. Aside from keeping us busy chasing after him he has become very good at pointing at things he wants, making truck noises while he pushes them around and cruising around on his feet while holding onto the furniture.

On July 18th we celebrated Eamon's first birthday with family and friends. He had a great time and fully enjoyed his first bites of cake. Unlike his big brother, Myles, Eamon didn't cry when everyone started singing.

Recently, Kirk and I took the boys up to Kirk's camp in Waldoboro, ME for a couple of days. We were joined by Kirk's cousin Matt and his family.

StoryLand and Hampton Inn Water Park

This July Kirk and I took the boys to North Conway for an overnight. We drove up on Monday morning and headed straight to StoryLand. Myles was beyond excited! He couldn't wait to check out all of the fun stuff they had. His first stop was the antique cars where he practiced his driving skills. Then it was off to the ball pit where he buried himself in little plastic balls.
Kirk and Myles then went on the spinning tea cups and followed that with some fun in the Loopy Lab. After taking a break under the big tent where we watched the circus, Myles took all of us for a spin on the tractors.
We wrapped it up at StoryLand and headed to dinner and the hotel. After checking in, we headed out to play a round of mini golf where Myles got a hole in one on the first hole.
The next morning, we headed downstairs for breakfast where Eamon got a birthday song and muffin from the woman working there. After, we changed into our suits and headed to the hotels indoor water park. Myles and Eamon had a blast playing in the kiddie pool and going down the slides. Kirk and I took turns going down the adult slides which were incredibly fast.

Today Myles and Eamon went on a garden tour in Portsmouth with Baampah (my dad), Dramma (my mom), Mimi (Kirk's mom) and me. Both boys enjoyed looking at all of the pretty flowers. Myles also loved the houses with the water features and live entertainment. There was one house in particular that he found the most fun because it had a little house for kids worked into the garden. However, when asked what his favorite part of the whole day was his reply was the sprinkle cookies that were served throughout the tour.

Last weekend we met our friends, the Dulacs, in Portsmouth for Market Square Day. Myles had a great time dancing in the street with his friends Drew and Cole. After, we all walked down to the children's area where the boys got their faces painted and picked out some cool masks. Myles and Drew both chose the Green Goblin and Cole went for the dog.

We took Myles and Eamon to Lee Speedway the other day for an organized outing. Myles was in heaven seeing all of the race cars and then watching them practice before the race. He was very excited to see one of the cars decorated with Sponge Bob and his friends.

10 Months

Eamon has been busy working on a new set of skills this month. He has transitioned into crawling and is busy pulling himself up on everything. He is having fun making mommy and daddy chase him around the house and finds trouble wherever he goes. We have found him trying to climb the stairs, dumping Tiger's food bowl all over the floor, rearranging the pantry and trying to climb through the cat door.

Longmarsh Preserve

On Memorial Day we decided to go for a walk through Longmarsh Preserve. It is an area behind our house where beavers have built several dams to make these large ponds. It is quite an unbelievable sight! There are marked trails and if you follow the right one it should take an hour or so.
However, we decided to take another marked trail thinking it would lead us back to our car also and almost ended up in Newmarket. That is the next town over from Durham for those of you unfamiliar with the area. After checking Kirk's Blackberry for a map of the trails and flagging down a passing car, we headed back in the direction we just came from. Needless to say we made it out well before dark and Myles was a real trooper walking most of the time. Luckily we were prepared and brought bug wipes since the mosquitoes came out in full force part way through.

Myles has been enjoying playing soccer on Saturday mornings. He is really starting to grasp the dribbling with your feet concept and has discovered a love for being the goalie.

Myles has been very busy practicing his biking skills this month. He enjoys riding his bike on our nightly walks and is very proud of himself when he conquers the hills. At the end of his ride he likes to point his fingers to the sky.

9 Month Checkup

Eamon had his 9 month checkup today. According to his doctor he is meeting all his milestones. He also is growing nicely, especially his head. Eamon is 18 pounds and 27 1/2 inches. He is measuring in the 25th to 50th percentile for weight and height. His head is off the charts.

Myles had his first day of soccer practice on Saturday. He had a lot of fun playing Red Light, Green Light, kicking the ball in the goal and taking water breaks. He is also excited to be playing soccer with his neighbor and friend Hailey. Her dad, John, is his coach which helps too.

Kirk, Myles, Eamon and I went mini golfing for the first time this year during an unusually hot April weekend. Myles had a blast trying to get the ball in the hole and ended his round with a 50. Eamon wasn't able to play yet but he was definitely taking notes the whole time.

9 Month Update (cont.)

Eamon has made a lot of transitions over this past month. Shortly, after turning 8 months he figured out how to move around on his belly and mastered the move in no time. He also figured out how to go from sitting to belly scooting and back up to sitting. The last move he does in secret and we have yet to see how he really does it. Eamon is also putting his two new bottom teeth to use by feeding himself things like banana, avocado and rice. However, most days there is more on his face and clothes than in his mouth. His most recent achievement is pulling himself up to a kneeling position on things all around the house.

Myles, Eamon and I have been visiting the playground recently now that the weather is getting warmer. Myles has grown to love going down the slide, walking across the bridges and climbing the rock wall. He is constantly telling me to go away and not hover like an overprotective mother. Eamon loves swinging on the swings which is a nice change from Myles at this age.

Myles has been busy enjoying the warm Spring air. He is mastering the art of riding his new bike, playing golf in the back yard and playing on the playground. Recently we received his 3rd Quarter Progress Report from school and he is doing well. His area to work on is sharing according to his teachers. We are told he is quite the entertainer and can be heard on the playground telling his friends he has "an idea." Some other favorite sayings of his are "I LOVE IT!" "It smells like breath," "That's rude," and "Mommy, Mommy, tell Daddy..."

We hope everyone had a great holiday. Today Myles woke up eager to see what the Easter Bunny brought him. After patiently waiting for Kirk to go downstairs and get the camera ready, he came down to see the goods. A NEW BIKE!!!! He, unfortunately, wasn't as thrilled as Kirk and I were. Instead he had a look of terror on his face. Once he warmed up to the idea of this cool new bike, he couldn't wait to take it for a spin around the house. The Easter Bunny, however, was not so generous to poor Eamon. He only got a t-shirt and a new cup. Maybe next year he will smile when he has his picture taken with him.
Later in the day we had a nice Easter dinner here at the house with Kirk's mom, Barry and his brother's family. After dinner, the kids went on a treasure hunt to find the goodies the Easter Bunny left for everyone. Sidewalk chalk, Play-Doh, bubbles, a Hot Wheels and a Frisbie. Once again, Eamon got shafted and only got the Hot Wheels which he is too little to play with.

The town of Durham held their annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday from 10:00 to 10:01. Unfortunately, we arrived at 10:02 and missed the egg hunt portion of it. Myles was disappointed for a moment but cheered up when he saw the table of Munchkins, the fire engine and the ambulance. After grabbing as many Munchkins as he could he was off to check out the town vehicles. His dreams came true when he was able sit in the ambulance and the fire truck. Meanwhile, Eamon watched in awe of his cool big brother. He then was forced to have his picture taken with the Easter Bunny.

Today Myles, Eamon and I enjoyed one of the few sunny days we see in April. After picking up Myles from school, we headed home to begin the fun. We hit golf balls, played in the sandbox, went for a walk down to the stream to throw rocks and did a little yard work.

Myles likes to call himself various names while playing sports. While playing hockey his name is Johhny Skater or Johnny Goalie, Nascar racing he is Jean Jeanne and for baseball he calls himself Ryan Drew. The other piece of it is that if you're playing with him you have to go by that name too. Well, today we were both Tiger Woods minus the big money prize.

8 Month Update

Eamon has been busy mastering his newest trick this past month. Whether he is on a mission to grab one of his brother's toys or just exploring his world, Eamon is on the move. Unlike his brother who clasped his hands and used his toes to move forward, Eamon has adopted the army crawl. He is now working on transitioning from sitting to crawling and should get the hang of it after a few more face plants.

Eamon has been busy mastering some new tricks over the past month and a half. After several face plants, he is able to sit up by himself and reach for his toys. He is also working on transitioning from sitting to belly crawling. The other big trick he is working on is moving. With a lot of effort he is able to move himself torward a desired object (usually his brother's toys). Like his big brother, Eamon is already quite the talker and enjoys babbling with anyone who will listen.
Myles has finished basketball and will be starting soccer in the Spring. He has been busy with school and seems to be enjoying it. However, he will tell you otherwise when asked. He and Kirk have been busy warming up for the golf season by going to the driving range and hitting balls in the basement. During the off season Myles has been working on his hockey game and attending UNH games with Kirk.
